Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter

Shea butter comes from the Shea tree and is a fat derived from two oily kernels within the seed. This tree is found in East and West tropical Africa (specifically Ghana, Nigeria, and Uganda). Following removal of the kernel from the seed, the product is then ground into a powder and heated to boiling in water. When Shea butter is being refined, up to 95% of the essential vitamins are stripped away. This also is known to render one variation of Shea odorless; however the other retains a smoky scent.

Shea butter has been used for skin care products since the days of Cleopatra in ancient Egypt.
