Calendula Extract (Calendula officinalis)

Calendula is a plant species related to the daisy family and is commonly thought of as a marigold. It is native to southwestern Asia, western Europe, and the Mediterranean but is now grown as an ornamental plant throughout the world.

“By the 1800’s doctors had realized that the plant, used as a poultice, could stop bleeding. By the time of the Civil War most doctors carried dried calendula petals in their medical bags to stop bleeding and to promote the healing of wounds.”  https://www.harvesting-history.com/calendula/

Calendula was also used in this way during World War I.  Topical use of oil from this plant has been suggested as a therapeutic resource by the National Health Surveillance Agency due to its anti-inflammatory therapeutic and healing effects. Calendula is recommended for treating superficial lesions such as burns, bedsores, wounds, and skin ulcers.
