Grapeseed Oil (Vitis vinifera)

Grapeseed oil is extracted from the seeds of grapes after the grapes are distilled for wine. Spain, Italy, and California vineyards produce the most Grapeseed oil today. France was the first country in Europe to produce Grapeseed oil. It is believed Grapeseed oil was even used in the Bible. Some historical sources believe this oil has existed for more than 6000 years. In general, grape seeds are discarded, but they are said to be the most conducive to your health.

“According to other historical sources, medical practitioners of Ancient Europe used various parts of the grape as well as extracts from its seeds and vines in medicinal applications, especially to create ointments that would treat ailments of skin and the eyes. The leaves were used as bandages to help stop the flow of blood in wounds and soothe inflammation associated with hemorrhoids. … Overly ripe grapes were used to address nausea and skin diseases such as smallpox. Dried grapes, better known as raisins, naturally relieved constipation and liver problems.” – https://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/blog/products/all-about-grapeseed-carrier-oils.html

“Any variety of grape contains nutrients and bioactive compounds available from their juice or solid parts. Grape seed extract has demonstrated many activities in disease prevention, such as antioxidant effects, which make it a potential source of nutraceuticals.” (Adapted from NIH – National Institute of Health – October 9, 2020)

“The role of estrogens in the pathogenesis of breast cancer has been well documented. This has led to the development of “Anti-Estrogens” (selective estrogens receptor modulators and Aromatase Inhibitors), used for treatment and prevention of breast cancer. These agents, however, have significant side effects, which are not acceptable to many healthy high-risk women. There is preliminary evidence that grape seed extract acts as “natural” aromatase inhibitor. This study has the potential to quantify the effectiveness of a natural substance that mimics the action of pharmaceutical aromatase inhibitors.” – https://classic.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00566553
