Mango Seed (Mangifera indica) Butter

Mango butter is sourced from the kernels of the stone of what is considered to be India’s “King of Fruits”. This is done through a process called hydraulic pressing. Throughout Asia, Mango fruit has been used in traditional methods of medicine for having healing, moisturizing, and rejuvenating properties. In the medicinal system of Ayurveda, the Mangifera indica herb has been used for over 4000 years with the belief it had the ability to strengthen the heart, improve brain activity, and increase the body’s immunity.

The mango was introduced in the West Indies around 1740 and eventually came to the Americas. It was not until the 1930’s that mango butter was studied enough to show that it contained significant amounts of vitamin E and phytosterols which gave it the potential to be used as an effective ingredient in natural cosmetic formulations. – Adapted from https://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/cosmetic-ingredients/butters/mango-butter-ultra-refined
