This butter is pressed from the fat of the reddish-orange fruits of the murumuru palm tree. This tree is native to regions of the Amazon Rainforest and Brazil. Brazil is still the largest producer and exporter of Murumuru butter. The fruit’s butter has no odor or taste but has the advantage of a resistance to rancidity.
“Murumuru is rich in fatty acids, which supports the skin barrier and seals moisture in. It is jam-packed with vitamin A, which offers ‘anti-aging effects on the skin by increasing the rate at which skin cells turnover’.” Adapted from https://www.ipsy.com/blog/murumuru-butter-benefits– indirect quote from Deanne Mraz Robinson, MD
This butter became highly valued in the United States during the 1940’s and 1950’s. Though it is solid at room temperature, it begins to melt as soon as it hits the skin.
